
Jane Alkon is an American author and artist.
Inspired by the love of her dog, Andy, and his new role as a therapy dog, The Remarkable Mr. Boy is the next chapter in the Mr. Boy Books series.
Following the success of Mr. Boy, the book that first introduced us to Andy, the adorable Labrador retriever and his owner, Jane Alkon, The Remarkable Mr. Boy continues to share their adventures, now as a pet therapy team. Two years in the making, The Remarkable Mr. Boy, is a loving and emotional book that shows us how dogs can improve the quality of life for everyone through pet therapy. The Remarkable Mr. Boy, along with Mr. Boy, is included in the permanent collection of works in the United States Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
The Remarkable Mr. Boy is Jane Alkon's third published book and the second of the Mr. Boy Books Publishing Group. An award-winning metalsmith and self-taught painter and woodworker, Alkon is also the author of Elements - Art and Design, a retrospective of her work of over 20 years as a handcraft artist.
Jane is a member of Therapy Dogs, Inc. (TD, Inc.) a national registry of volunteer assistance dogs and along with her dog, Andy, has received certification as a pet therapy team. An active member of Therapaws, an animal assistance organization based in Ann Arbor, MI, Jane and her dog, Andy, regularly visit hospitals and nursing facilities throughout Metro-Detroit. In addition to working with Therapaws, Jane established the Canine Reading Buddy programs at the Huntington Woods and Southfield Public Libraries. As a member of the Canine R.E.A.D. Program, (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) Jane brings her dog, Andy, to libraries and schools to enable children to read aloud to a dog, improving their reading and communication skills.
A Michigan native, Jane graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Sociology and Master's Degree in Labor and Industrial Relations.
A lifelong dog lover and dog owner, Jane lives in Michigan with her Labrador retriever, Andy.
